MTH 101 — College Mathematics

Year 1 — Fall Semester

Introduces fundamental mathematical concepts and their applications to business and everyday decision-making, including percentages, ratios, equations, functions, financial mathematics, interest, loans, depreciation, and basic statistics, with emphasis on quantitative reasoning and practical problem-solving.

Suggested Course Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of MTH 101, students should be able to:

1. Apply fundamental mathematical operations to business and real-world problems.
2. Solve problems involving percentages, ratios, proportions, equations, and formulas.
3. Apply mathematical concepts to financial situations involving interest, loans, discounts, taxes, and depreciation.
4. Interpret tables, graphs, formulas, and quantitative business information.
5. Use quantitative reasoning and problem-solving strategies to analyze business situations.
6. Use calculators and spreadsheet technology to perform and communicate mathematical calculations.
7. Evaluate whether mathematical results are reasonable and appropriate for a given business context.
